NOTICE OF EMPLOYMENT
DEPUTY TOWN CLERK
The Town of Como, Mississippi is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Deputy Town Clerk.
The Deputy Town Clerk will work under the direction and supervision of the Town Clerk and will assist with the daily administrative operations of Town Hall. The successful applicant must be dependable, professional, organized, able to maintain confidentiality, and committed to providing courteous and efficient service to the citizens of the Town of Como.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Deputy Town Clerk may be responsible for assisting with:
Providing courteous and professional service to citizens, taxpayers, vendors, and visitors.
Answering telephone calls, receiving visitors, and responding to routine inquiries.
Assisting the Town Clerk with daily Town Hall operations.
Preparing, organizing, filing, and maintaining municipal records and documents.
Assisting with minutes, agendas, notices, correspondence, reports, and other official documents.
Assisting with maintaining accurate financial, administrative, and municipal records.
Assisting with billing, receipts, payments, deposits, and other routine municipal transactions as assigned.
Assisting with accounts payable, purchase orders, invoices, and related documentation.
Assisting with preparation and organization of records for audits and financial reporting.
Assisting with municipal court operations, including preparing and organizing court-related documents, maintaining court records, assisting with court calendars and notices, receiving payments when authorized, and providing administrative assistance to the court and court personnel.
Assisting with water department operations, including customer service, water account information, billing, payments, account records, work orders, service requests, meter records, delinquent account documentation, and other administrative duties as assigned.
Assisting with public records requests and maintaining records in accordance with applicable Mississippi law.
Assisting with municipal meetings, including preparation of materials and meeting records.
Assisting with elections and other municipal administrative duties when assigned.
Using computers, email, printers, scanners, spreadsheets, word-processing programs, and municipal software.
Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive municipal information.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Town Clerk, Mayor, or governing authorities in accordance with applicable law, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must:
Possess a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Demonstrate the ability to read, write, communicate effectively, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Demonstrate good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Be able to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information appropriately.
Be able to communicate professionally and courteously with the public and Town employees.
Be able to operate basic office equipment and learn municipal computer systems and software.
Be able to follow written and verbal instructions and comply with applicable Town policies, ordinances, and Mississippi law.
Be dependable, punctual, professional, and capable of working independently as well as with others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are preferred but are not required:
Previous experience working in a municipal, county, governmental, or other public-service office.
Previous clerical, administrative, bookkeeping, accounting, or office-management experience.
Some college education, preferably in business administration, accounting, public administration, office administration, or a related field.
Experience working with financial records, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, or deposits.
Experience with municipal court, court records, legal documents, or court administration.
Experience with water billing, utility accounts, customer service, or utility department administration.
Experience preparing or maintaining official records, minutes, reports, correspondence, or legal documents.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Workspace, or similar office software.
Experience working with municipal or governmental financial/accounting software.
Knowledge of Mississippi municipal government and the Mississippi Code of 1972, particularly laws relating to municipal officers, records, finances, public records, meetings, courts, utilities, and elections.
Experience working with the public in a professional customer-service environment.

The selected applicant will be expected to:
Successfully complete any employment screening required by the Town.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
Protect confidential and sensitive municipal information.
Follow all applicable Town policies, procedures, ordinances, and state and federal laws.
Perform duties consistent with the Town’s code-charter form of government and the lawful direction of the Town Clerk and governing authorities.
Work cooperatively with the Town Clerk, Mayor, Board of Aldermen, Municipal Court, Water Department, Town employees, and members of the public.
